ORIGINAL RESEARCH / CONTROLLED BROWSER FIXTURE

What should an interface say when it does not know yet?

Twelve fictional states, one explicit evidence boundary, and a downloadable record another reviewer can inspect.

Interfaces make factual claims. A loading message says work is underway. An empty message says a completed result contains nothing. A success message says the promised outcome has been established. This study provides a small public fixture for keeping those claims within the evidence available to the interface.

The twelve scenarios are fictional teaching records. They report no customer, participant, private account, or production-product behavior. The observed results below verify how this fixture rendered during one documented browser run.

CONTROLLED PUBLIC FIXTURE

Inspect twelve evidence boundaries.

Select a fictional state. The preview separates what its fixture establishes from what remains unknown.

pattern-library / fictional fixtureIS-01 · initial-load

Clean fictional library; no collection request has started.

Ready to run

Run the scripted collection request and hold it open.

The result region is intentionally absent until the transition runs.

Method

  1. Load the built public fixture with its reviewed scenario definitions.
  2. Select every state at a desktop viewport and a narrow viewport.
  3. Record the rendered fixture ID, visible message, semantic role, action, preserved sample input, focused scenario control, CSS viewport, device pixel ratio, and user agent.
  4. Repeat the initial loading state after the variants at each viewport.
  5. Capture four representative screenshots from the same built page and compare the public JSON and CSV with the browser record.

Read the complete methodology or download the blank review worksheet.

Recorded observations

24 browser observations are included. “Pass” means the rendered teaching fixture matched its reviewed definition; it is not a judgment about another product.

Representative evidence

Initial loading result in the SaaS Mirror interface-state study
Initial load after the scripted transition at the recorded desktop viewport. The fixture states that a request is in progress and does not claim that the collection is empty.
Filtered empty fixture at the narrow study viewport
Filtered empty at the recorded narrow viewport. The message applies to the visible filter rather than the complete library.
Unknown save outcome fixture in the interface-state study
Unknown outcome at the recorded desktop viewport. The next action checks status instead of blindly repeating a possibly completed save.
Completed fixture at the narrow study viewport
Confirmed completion at the recorded narrow viewport, with a control representing the next route to the saved result.
